My daughter's laptop displays a mirror image, split top and bottom, from initial boot and continues to desktop?

She had Vista, installed windows 7 hoping it would cure the problem. She says top and bottom "desktops" are identical including mouse pointer. Also says area to change screen resolution is grayed out. I had her reinstall video card software, no help either.|||it sounds like there is an issue with the hardware. what kind of computer is it/ brand, desktop or laptop.

if it is a desktop you can buy and install a new video card for around 50.00 and see if it is a laptop it's best to contact the maker and get some help. do you have a warranty ? in most cases when i have seen a split desktop that are the same it is usually a video card issue. but you can go online to your computer maker and go through a few steps to clarify the issue. then you can get a good picture of the steps you need to take next. if you have any more questions just contact me.|||Well.. first things first. If it is a hardware problem, and she did a system recovery on it returning it to the same state it was in when she got it.. in other words, if she did a Factory Restore back to Vista, and the split screen stayed, that would mean her problem was hardware based... either bad RAM or the onboard video card.

If she did a System Recovery, and the problem went away, it would mean that the generic video drivers that came with Windows 7 were incompatible with her onboard video, and that either you did not install the Windowz & version of her video drivers, or the manufacturer did not provide them and the Vista drivers were incompatible with the version of Windows 7 that she installed... say 64 bit version of Windows 7 and the 32bit Vista video drivers... or vice versa. So, locating the proper video drivers for that model laptop and video chipset to go with Windows 7 would be a priority.
